Step 3 Market Entry helps you analyze the different ways you can enter markets. Landed Costs and how they affect pricing are discussed. Factors in choosing an overseas partner and government resources to vet your options are covered. The step also explores three main eCommerce avenues: Amazon, eBay and Shopify. Step 4 Legal

Step 4 Legal walks you through two important legal issues in global trade: international contracts and intellectual property protection. There are many different types of legal systems in the world and you need to write your contracts to reflect the differences in legal systems, protecting your interests. Intellectual Property protection also differs among countries. You will help BettySue determine key legal clauses and the intellectual property that suits her products.

Step 5 Compliance

Step 5 Compliance dives into “Export Here=Import There”. What does it take to get my product out of the U.S. and what does it take to get it into the other country. You must determine if you need an export license (only 5% of products do). You must also know the requirements to clear customs in the country to which you are exporting. You will help BettySue answer the compliance questions of “Export Here=Import There”

Step 6 Transportation

Step 6 Transportation covers all the details you need to know to transport your product globally. In international shipping your Freight Forwarder is your most important ally. They help you determine the best, most cost efficient shipping method, advise you on export regulations, import requirements and the best use of Incoterms® Even though you are the “Exporter of Record”, they can prepare and file any documents. You will help BettySue determine the best mode of shipment and Incoterms®.

Step 7 Payments and Finance

Step 7 Payments and Finance gives you key information to make sure you get paid on your exports. Every transaction, domestic or international is all about making a profit while mitigating risk. Export risk can be controlled through payment methods, Letters of Credit and credit insurance. The government offers several export finance programs to assist with payment risk and global expansion. You will help BettySue determine her payment method and what government programs can assist her in exporting now and longterm.

Step 8 Culture

Step 8 Culture is the most important step in The Riddle of the Exporter™ 8-step process. Understand the nuances and importance of cultural communications and how it affects every step of the 8-step process.
